For a little history behind the flag, The very first 1st Navy Jack flag originated from the thoughts of Commodore Hopkins in 1775. It has thirteen aternating red and white stripes representing the 13 original colonies with an uncoiled rattlesnake and the moto"Don't Tread On Me". The rattle snake was a symbol of resistance in Colonial America to the British.
